Harlem Rapper, ASAP Rocky, watch the video for his single "Peso" here
As a (potential) multi-million dollar entity...

J.I.D's principles have been the same since 1994 when he learned that one must treat others the way they want to be treated.

To J.I.D, customer satisfaction has always come first. While other entities are so focused on making money that they lose the trust of their customers, J.I.D. handles customers with a level of selflessness. On one occasion J.I.D's loyalty to the customer almost cost him a job. DTRT, but money is the motivation.

J.I.D. is a measurer of his own success. He makes no excuses, only conclusions. He doesn't make love, he makes magic. J.I.D. challenges himself, whether it be a hobby, his artistic expertise, his work, or love. But J.I.D. doesn't do this for the mere love of the achievement, he does it to show others that all is possible if you apply basic judgement, insight, and determination to a goal.

J.I.D. is currently on a journey to the top of the entertainment industry so stay tuned...

Give your Skills a bit of Recognition!

Not everyone knows who they are, and since that means they probably have no idea what you do and how good you do it, it’s vital for you to give your skills a bit or recognition.

Hope I get it right this time! My first time wasn’t as successful as I thought it would be, but now as I took my time to evaluate its much clear.

My name is Tais, I am half Brazilian and half Italian.

I was born here in the United State, but when I was 5 years old my whole family and I moved back to Brazil to open a Bakery business, where I was raised until I was 11 years old.

Just when things were getting better, and I was making friends, and figuring out how to speak Portuguese. We move back to the States.

For a better education, and the long time waited American dream we moved back to New Jersey.

I had to learn how to adapt to different cultures and languages in a very fast and small period of time. There was a point in my life where I felt confused and insecure especially when I had to speak in public.

I barely knew English, and the one language I should feel most comfortable speaking was taking me longer to learn than expected; Portuguese!

I am a perfectionist and I like to do things to its full potent ability. I guess its no secret where I got it from. Being so young and trying to do the most simple thing a child can do. Talk!

Today I feel I should empower individuals to chase their dreams even though it seems unreachable. I want to share the feeling of “Yes, I did it!”

I am a Trilingual College student who is about to graduate from Kean University with a Bachelors degree in Business Management!

I will not let culture barriers get in my way, or discourage me in any way. If I don’t understand what you are saying I do my best until I do!

I am a Financial Assistant that loves what I do!

Between my full-time job, I still find my balance managing to get through 18 credits in a semester to graduate on time, while still getting the most out of it.

I am very persistent! I wont say I haven’t giving up on anything in my life, I would be lying!

But what I will say is that I will always try my hardest.

Before I look back and feel the worse feeling in the whole world, regret for not trying at all!

If it wasn’t for my persistence to learn. Most likely I would not be doing what I love.

I happily work for ACS a Xerox Company at Ezpass a sector of the government that requires me to speak Spanish, Portuguese, and English all day.

Communicating with customers is part of my pay check.

Even today, not doubting my capabilities, but if it wasn’t for my late night of studying and trying my best to learn a new language. Most likely I would not be doing what I love to do!

It is very simple! Be persistent, smile EVERYDAY!

Just because you didn’t get it the first time, does not mean you were not good enough.

It just simply means "IT" was not good enough for you!

I cant help not to mention a huge motivation in my life, God! I know this is no religious class, but I would be selfish not to mention part of who I am.

I have worked for huge corporations and from a very young age I have presence my family’s bakery business.

What CEO's wants is not who you claim to be. Yet, who you really are!

Integrity; is what successful companies are looking for in an individual.

At the end of the day, honesty always makes you look professional!

My target audiences are young college students who are going through a tough time trying to manage their school as a priority, and at the same time at their work doing what they love.

You have to love what you do. It is the passion that pushes you forward! With no doubt in my mind this is how I got my recent promotion at work.

Focus on yourself, work really hard with a passion and you will go anywhere you want to!

I use Facebook as one of my social media tools to promote my idea.

Everyday I encourage myself to post a positive message to remind my friends that even though life is not easy, but then it doesn’t really have to be easy to be great!

I also have Linkedin page for my professional life that reflects who I am.

Offering extended help to anyone who is in the same situation I am, and would also like to share their experience.

Jessica Scala- A Personal Brand

My Objectives

Being that I am in my last year of college I have started to compose a mental list of things I would like to accomplish.

Along with those things it is important to me to uphold what I consider to be my "personal brand" throughout anything that I do.

As far as my objectives for my future career, I plan on applying for internships for the spring semester, with hopes to obtain experience in my field.

As of right now I am currently looking to go down a different career path then I had been playing for myself.

After being extremely into baseball and taking a sports marketing class this semester, I am now thinking about interning and trying to get an accounting job with a major league sports team.

My dream would be to work with the New York Yankees.

I feel like this is a career path that will not only give me the oppurunity to be work as an accoutant, but to love what I do by incorporating accounting with the sports world.

I also have not completely ruled out my original career plan, and still have hopes to then go back to school an obtain a certificate in forensic accounting some time in the future.

My Audience

My target audiences would have to be my professors for the time being, especially because I would like to make a good impression on my professors with hopes to get good reconmandaion letters for future jobs.

When I start my internship my target audience would be my boss, major league sports teams, co-workers, and peers. I would want to make as many contacts as possible to help me further my career in the future.

Regardless of who my audience is the qualities that create my personal brand and who I am, will always be the same.

My Message

The fact that I am honest, hard working, responsible, and trustworthy will be qualities I will make sure to uphold throughout anything I do.

I am someone who puts everything into what I do to accomplish the task at hand and will make sure that people, whether they are my bosses, co-workers, or peers know that when they give me something to do it will not just get done, but will be done timely, efficiently, and will be done above and beyond.

And now that I am looking toward a different career path, I would love to incorporate my knowledge of sports with in my personal brand and career.

My Channels/Strategy

Some of the channels I feel that will work best for me to get my personal brand started and out there would be Linked In and Career Builder.

Before this course I was not familiar with Linked In, but after playing with the site, I feel like I am greatly going to benefit from using it and it will help me get my name out there.

Also, I have been thinking that making myself familiar with sports teams blog may help me in the future.

Jenn: More Value. Better Brand.

For: marketing/creative executives, start ups, B2B / B2C and the trade show / event industry

I am: vivacious, tenacious and driven to be as a successful self-made woman who decided to go back to school to earn a B.S in Marketing. A triple-threat of industrial, motivational and unconventional flair if you will.

That: has propelling determination for personal and career success and aspires to be a Marketing Guru with an influential creative edge

Through: initiative, outside-of-the-box thinking and balance. I’ve always told myself I will hold my own success and absorb anything necessary. Molding and shaping “Jenn” into a self-made person is an endeavor that will never cease.

And how will I do this? In a fervent way.

But wait - a light bulb is shining; it’s a philosophical moment: My reputation precedes me.

There are 2 things that separate my brand from competitors...

Sacrifice: I have an Associates degree (though am working tirelessly toward my Bachelor's). Being surrounded by successful friends has given me an even stronger drive for professional triumph. I decided to put my career as a Marketing/Trade Show Coordinator on a hiatus and go back to school full-time at Kean University (http://www.keanuniversity.edu/).

Initiative / drive: I have the “do-what-it-takes-to-get-the-job-done” attitude. That means accepting challenges and taking the reigns whenever possible. I absolutely relish proving that I can handle.

The Eccentric Marketing Apprentice

My personal brand is something that I've grown into, something that has defined where I've been and where I'm going.

I'm (hopefully) graduating in May with a degree in marketing. When I first began college, I was determined to become an English teacher.

This was mostly because, considering I was pegged as "the weird kid" in grammar school, I figured being a crazy English teacher that writes poems and dramatizes Shakespeare all day would be right up my alley. Besides, my parents weren't too fond of the idea of majoring in music, so I figured I could still use some of my "artistic talent".

Until one day, my dad, who works for an alcohol distributor, came home with all these glossy, glamorous press kits. He told the family that we're going on a cruise, courtesy of Bacardi.

I had no idea what he did, but I wanted to be just like him.

And so became my love affair with marketing. I never realized how perfect it fit into my desire to be creative while it actually made me feel ... well, normal.

The best part about it is how much industry and technological changes actually force you to keep learning.

A psychic once told me I was a "jack of all trades, master of none" - well, lady, you must not have included school into the mix. Like the total weirdo in me would say, academics have always kept me on my toes and made me actually proud of my work.

My love for learning also influences my love for sharing my knowledge. Everything from my blog to my demeanor is aimed to inspire young women, student leaders, and undergrads like myself, and to prove myself to my mentors.

I aim to do all of this in a unique way.

So of course, if I'm going to be branded by anything, it would be by my loves in life. My love for my ridiculous personality and the adventures that come with it, my love for my (future) career, and my love for absorbing everything around me.

The eccentric marketing apprentice.

It all comes together in what I do. I use the resources around me, like my blog and LinkedIn, to express myself in a professional, innovative and energetic manner.

At the end of the day, I want to look back on these tools and see how far I've come. My mission is to become the best at what I do, and even if I have to claw my way to the top, I'll do it with class and dignity.

Yelp! May Have Saved My Broken Heart

Yelp and Facebook have teamed up to create an easy user experience. Yelp, a social media tool that is now connected to Facebook, is a way for people to rate and review local businesses. Whether it is a restaurant or gas station, yelp has a review. People can also check in at certain places. When you check in somewhere, they sometimes have a coupon, deal, or promotion offer for that place.

I used Yelp for the first time this week. I was looking for an animal shelter for my two cats. I have recently moved in somewhere that doesn’t allow pets, and I really wanted to make sure my two loveable, social cats found a proper home.

Yelp provided me with reviews of a few nearby shelters. I feel this was especially helpful since I was heartbroken to have to send them away. Hearing that the animals were actually taken care of help put my heart at ease.

I chose yelp to look for reviews because it was simple and easy now that it is connected to Facebook. I found that when I updated my mobile app for Facebook, Yelp was already included and downloaded for me.

The transition was easy, and therefore they got my business (so to speak).

But, if anyone does actually know someone who would give my two cats a great home, please let me know.

Branding-ball

So you want to know what my Band is.

Well Judging by my appearance, (6'5 and pretty fit) my resume, (all county in high school, 3 year varsity Letterman, two year captain, and a ton of letters from schools flooding my mail box) and the title of this blog, (branding-ball) which is obviously a humorous attempt to combine my interest as a brand, you can pretty much tell im all about athletics.

I love sports but there is one that stands out of all the others. its The absolutely wonderful game of basketball.

The process that I'm currently going though is converting myself from a player to a coach. Now who am I coaching you you might ask? i would like to develop kids who already have a love for the game and are willing to unlock their potential.

So there pretty much goes about 70% of my target audience. now the reason i said about 70% is because id like to reserve the other 30% to parents who feel like their child would benefit from this.

Turning My Passion Into My Career

by:

In the year 2001, I was just about to graduate from Middlesex County College (MCC) with a liberal arts degree and with no idea what I wanted to do with it.+
During my time at MCC, I was President of the College Center Programming Board, President of the Social Committee, President of the Forum Committee, as well as, Chairperson for Scholarship Fundraisers.
Leading all of these committees, I found a passion for Marketing.

How, you ask?

Well, I'll tell you that leadership had everything to do with it.
I led these organizations to succeed in maintaining relationships with the students. I did marketing campaigns to fuel momentum for student activities on campus. I also led them to succeed in their events, whether it be a speaker on Astronomy, or a fundraiser for scholarships.
It was my duty to choose what students wanted from their student activity experience on campus.
To make an educational seminar on cancer fun, I hired Tom Green to come and speak to the student body on his experience with cancer.
To gain more support for scholarships, I held a themed fundraiser party that hosted a wide array of events.

These events included a battle of the bands, DJ dance party, Homecoming pageant, laser tag, and other "Space" related themed activities.
To gain support from the students, we handed out 3 foot tall blow up, green aliens that held the fundraiser's event date and time printed on them.

Needless to say, when about half of the student body was walking around with green aliens, it created quite a buzz.
This is where I fell in love with marketing. The power and recognition I felt from creating a successful campaign was priceless.
From then on, I knew what I wanted to do with my life.
A few years later, I began working as a Marketing Coordinator for a smart grid technology company. I was doing exactly what I had always loved -- specializing in trade and event marketing.
I love the respect that comes from a perfectly executed conference or press event, or when sponsors, attendees and internal executives are amazed at the amount of work and effort that went into the project - from start to finish.

I love seeing the people I manage on my team come together to fulfill a project through to its end.

I love the satisfaction that comes from seeing a project through to fruition and the sense of achievement in knowing that I gave it my best and I brought a project to its end... Successfully.
And I must say, it is far better to love what you do, than hate your chosen path.
To understand my passion for marketing, you need to understand my passion for rock climbing.
From January to April I work out at an indoor rock gym 3 nights a week.

This is to get my body in shape for outdoor climbing which has proved to be harder than indoor rock climbing.

Outdoors we typically take weekend trips to various sport climbing areas. These areas include: West Point NY, Birdsboro PA, Rumney NH, and The Gunks, PA

Outdoor sport climbing involves using your own rope, Gri Gri or ATC (which is your belay device) along with climbing shoes and a harness.

The difference between sport climbing and top roping is that while climbing top rope (typically found in the gym) the rope is already attached to carabineers at the top of the wall.

In sport climbing, you take the carabineers and clip them into the rock as you climb. Then you take the rope and clip it into your carabineers which is now clipped into bolted rock areas usually 7 to 10 feet apart on a specific routed climb.

It is more dangerous to climb this way because if you fall, you will only be protected from your last clipped carabineer; however, if you want to enjoy outdoor rock climbing, you must get over the fear of falling and just do it.

I really enjoy climbing outdoors. It allows you to be free in nature and it allows you to experience different kinds of rock and formations unique to specific regions.

I believe the dedication it takes to become a good climber reveals a lot about my personality.

I believe the same dedication is needed to exceed professionally.

I have demonstrated both.
What is the message here?  Love what you do, and do it well because the positive reinforcement from doing it right is enough to fuel you to do even better.
Secondary to that, please find a balance between work and other aspects of life.  Because giving it your all isn’t just for your professional life, it is very important in your personal life as well.
Finally, if you can link and attribute distinct characteristics from within your personal life to your professional life, you will go far  because you know what it takes to make it.

You've already shown yourself that by being motiviated within your hobbies.

Lets work to the Right- Not Left!

Trying to be successful in the business world is NOT an easy task, but so far i'm on the right path.

I have gone from waitress to barista to cashier to receptionist to assistant manager in almost four years.

Soon enough, I will be managing my own business, putting me a step closer to accomplishing my goal.

Involvement in the food/hospitality field has helped me notice what I want to do, where I want to stand, and how far I want to go.

I have learned to see how competitive the market is and how successful a business can be if the market is well-studied. Location is very important when it comes to these things.

Thanks to my commitment and respect towards my employers, I have had a variety of opportunities. It has come in handy because it has given me first look at what people consume whether its summer or fall or small little details that can come in between when opening up a business.

I set myself an important objective four years ago: to find my true calling. When I did, I set another one: to get as much experience as possible. Now that I have- I’m setting myself another one: to get myself known locally, slowing moving into the international market in a some future.

It is time to make my experience useful.

My own consumer's needs are important when working in the business field but seeing others' needs have definitively made me improve my customer service skills. Consumers are and will always be my main audience.

They will help me discover the endless pros and cons of having a local business and what to keep in mind if I want to go overseas. Most businesses advertise through the old-fashioned tactics. Most lack creativity- a skill that with confidence I can say I have.

Im not saying old-fashioned tactics don’t work, but everybody knows about social media networking- so why not take advantage of them? We’re in 2011-almost 2012. One must keep them in mind to attract teenage and adult generations because they are the tomorrow’s future, and today’s future.

I for an instance will be using Facebook, since I feel that Twitter is more of a site where people follow celebrities tweets. I will also be creating a LinkedIn account to make myself known by other employers who are involved in the same field.

Also having a page linked to my personal sites is one of my many strategies. This will get my close friends, family, co-workers, and others aware of my plans. It will be keeping my fans updated with latest details and get my business some advertising, without spending too much money.

Having a business of your own takes time. It doesn’t happen from a day to another. There is a complete list of expenses that one has to keep in mind.

Yet, I know that if my motivation has gotten me this far, it will not fail me in the future. Until the chance of having my own business comes up, I might have to settle to managing one for a year or two, but as long as im on the right path-not left, I KNOW i will be fine.

Branding Myself for the Future

My first attempt at a brand statement didn't go to well, so this is my second try at this.

My name is Kayla Kaplan. I am 24 years old, and finally a senior at Kean University. I am a Marketing major, with some experience in the marketing field. I do, however, have much experience as a hard worker, great customer service, punctual, give-it-my-all type of an employee.

Starting now by getting my name out there in the business world would benefit me in the long run. With that said social media will be a big help at this point and time.

My goals are simple, to achieve a job with in the respected field I have a college degree in. If I can't receive my ideal job, then perhaps a secondary go for myself can be, network myself to where I can be in the back of someone's mind for when that ideal job opens up.

I already interact on Facebook, but that is my personal social media site that I will not mix with my prospective career.

I will start expanding my name through LinkedIn first. This is a site that has coporate employees with in the same field you are in and have eachother network with one another. This can benefit me by perhaps meeting or interactive with someone who can assist in hiring me when I get out of school.

Another social media website that can help me greatly would be a website like CareerBuilder.com. Here you post your resume and have employers contact you, offering interviews and such.

I would like my target audience, who are corporate employers in Marketing, Public Relations, or Sales to notice me, my experiences and what I can bring to their office for the better.

I'm not a great big Twitter fan, perhaps because I have never tried it. But I feel using a social media website such as Twitter will quickly become something for my own personal use again, much like Facebook, and then it wouldn't benefit my career at all.

Even if i do receive that dream job, the first out of college, I will continue to use social media to grow with ever expanding corporate world. A new dream job can always open up.

I can't wait to begin the roller coaster of corporte employment, so let me begin now!

A Headline to Remember

Today, I received an email with a really interesting headline.

"What Can 'Jersey Shore' Teach You About Sales Readiness."

It made me think of our last class and the writing lesson about headlines.

Writing Lesson: Create headlines that are simple yet compelling and summarize the main point of your piece. And don't get "cute."

For that very reason, I thought this was a great headline to share.  It certainly got me to open the email.

Writing Lesson Part II: These writing points don't just apply to blogging ... they apply to email, LinkedIn, Twitter and any other medium.

Let me know your thoughts! Perri

Defined By Luxury

My Life, My Brand
I am positive, energetic, free spirited &
open-minded; inspired by innovative ideas from the Arts to cross-cultural, intellectual people with industry knowledge.

Some of my finest qualities include: charisma, perceptiveness, creativity, innovative ideas, motivation, problem solving, assertiveness, the ability to communicate well with all types of people and working well under pressure through all kinds of circumstances.

Message to My Audience
I have a particular interest / taste for luxury brands.  Being a Marketing Major, I am on a
quest to better understand how to Market high-quality products and services, along with
understanding such consumers, as the target audience for the luxury industry.

With a natural sense of style along with “hands on” experience with high-end clothing
and accessories, as well as, working with quite a few established people, I developed a niche in selling high-quality products to people who define themselves by what they consume.

Luxury Industries I'm Particularly Into:
Fashion, lifestyle & hospitality (restaurant & club life; wines / champagne, cocktails & foods), cars, music (preferably house / trance & hip-hop), high end / exquisite jewelry & related events / fundraisers.

Some of the luxury brands I worked with in consultative sales includes:  Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Herve Leger, Alexander McQueen, D.V.F, Cavalli, Alice & Olivia, Catherine Malandrino and much more...

I was also invloved for two years in Red Bank's "ferrari day & exotic car show."  This show was implemented to promote the town, as well as, sponcored by the high-end boutiques and restaurants in the premise of the event.

I found this event very inspiring from a public relation's point of veiw.  It was also a great oppportunity to meet more exclusive and well-rounded people; making me realize that this is the type of atmosphere I would love to establish myself in.

Specialties I’d Like to Develop:
Strategic Marketing, Branding (improving), Public Relations, Corporate Image, further
my career in Fashion and / or Lifestyle, Entrepreneurship, and International Business

Fine Appreciation for Arts:
Arts such as dance, all types of music & Dj’s, classical art pieces to abstract, graffiti
and collages, architecture and interior design, inspirational writing / blogs / magazines.

One of my greatest inspirations and attributes for my appreciation of high fashion design and high-quality products is Vogue, nothing less then impeccable Art.  Other inspirations are fashion shows like the Victoria Secrets annual grand show, models, and visual merchandising.

As a business major, I try to be knowledgable in the Economy, Trends, Stock Market, Globalization, Politics, saving the Environment, as well as, Eco-friendly products.

Being that I am still studying and haven't come anywhere close to what I aspire to be one day, I find it encouraging to read about cross-industrial icons.  Especially, people that were once less fortunate, but rose above the circumstances, and shaped our world to be as it is today.

Personal icons I'm inspired by:  Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Anna Wintour, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, Diane Von Furstenberg & Steve Jobs

Pictures Say 1000 Words...

Rapper T.I. and producer Pharrell
..and videos, 1,000,000.

I chose to follow Rap Radar....a blog for everything hip-hop.

RapRadar's author mainly communicates using it's content and link to star power.

The words the author says is usually a descriptive joke or pun that plays off whatever is posted, followed by promotion for the artist's latest project.

Case in point, Juicy J. ft. Alley Boy - I Don't Play With Guns

The author talks about how Juicy J and Alley Boy won't be busting guns, but they'll be working hard on Juicy J's  'Blue Dreams and Lean' project.

Jid's thoughts

I don't think the author can really do much more. As a follower of the blog, I go to RapRadar for the content. I usually don't even notice the words under the video or whatever.

It's effective because the blog is based on the content, not the blogger trying to be a star...which is why some blogs fail. The pics and vids speak for themselves.

-Majid

For Ms. Richman's comments..

-I do think it would be pretty cool if the author actually posted comments, or responded to them.

Even though the music blogs of the internet can be nasty places, more and more people would come to the blog knowing that the author is actively communicating with them. Especially an author like YN, who is the former Editor-In-Chief of XXL...a popular hip hop magazine.

But he probably couldn't do that due to the fact that Hip-Hop is now a business, and the wrong comment or impression can mess up things on the business side for him.

Artists telling their fans not to go to that blog or  promoting another blog due to disrespect on another one isn't a farfetched scenario.

Catch 22.

A Different Brand

My brand is based on Time Management, Commitment to work and long term planning.

Time Management is necessary since there is a lot of management required with a full time job, and a small real estate company which i plan to introduce in the market.

Commitment is also a major need for a person to work full time in a company and manage the small business. There is a lot of issues related to the management of real estate properties specially in these hard times, since its hard to get loans from banks.

Long Term planning is a key issue in a small business. To achieve a profit in a small business in short term is real hard in these economic time, but a small business can achieve a lot of profit if its planned right in a long term.

J.I.D: The Plan

Once again it's ya man, the great J.I.D. here to share my intricate plot to boost the J.I.D. BRAND

The Objective
To help the lost souls, cluttered minds, and the go-getters through everything in life. All the while making the most money, and it will be in the entertainment business. J.I.D

How will J.I.D. do it?

First! He will get the message out through whatever venue he can use.

Music - This is my bread and butter. My past is composed of me writing and making music. From making beats to making songs to piano ensembles to the school band, lol. Music is something I know and I know it well.

Videos - Youtube is the greatest creation in the last 10 years. Countless names have been birthed from Youtube videos. From Tay Zonday to Natalie Tran. If you got something you want people to see, this is a good place to put it.

PSA's - This is for those who invest their time into the J.I.D. brand. The information, knowledge, and wisdom I gather will be shared with the people in PSA's.

All of this will really just chronicle my journey to the top of the world and will be spread across Social Media outlets all across the Web. J.I.D. will build relationships with fellow greats in whatever field he picks and hold his own on any platform.

J.I.D. will handle his business in the offices as well as the streets. Meaning...

I want to connect with everyone, regardless of their occupation, whereabouts, or demographic. J.I.D. wants to connect with the people because that interpersonal communication is essential in these times.

J.I.D.'s target audience are those who love to be entertained, love a great story, and want a blueprint on how to be successful...and also the people I need to be successful of course. Managers, bosses, executives, my team..and you.

Most information we get IS from social media so J.I.D. will be making the transformation from the customer to the supplier.

I will address all inquiries of fears and concerns directly to whoever has the question to ensure the people who follow J.I.D. that this is real and it will be a success.

Those who abuse the J.I.D.  BRAND and try to besmerch the name will be interrogated to evaluate their intentions.

If good, I will see to it that they are helped to be placed back on the path. If bad, I will see to it that it wasn't my fault that they've made their decision and act accordingly. J.I.D.

One day I was listening to Jay-Z's "American Gangster" album. On the album was a song named "American Dreamin'" where he talks about how he used to dream of being rich back when he was living in Marcy projects.

On the album Jay has a line where he says "Who in the 'F' knows how to be successful." This line struck a cord with me because all of us want to be successful in life, but some of us don't know where to start.

I want to do it and have it documented so those with the determination but no plan can have a blueprint to follow. You will implement the J.I.D. brand into your life.

I am the pilot and I'm flier than ever...

More to come...J.I.D.

Facebook what are you doing?!

I checked out the new list that facebook has. What a mess it was. I had one total family member. That's incorrect. A bunch of coworkers that don't even work at my bank.

This list could benefit people if I actually spent time on facebook to separate my friends. For a celebrity they can separate their friends into people they know or fans.

I tried Twitter. It's a different atmosphere compared to Facebook. Don't really like the idea of just making new posts all the time.

It's pretty cool to follow a celebrity and what they come up with. On the radio, they broadcast a lot of stuff that goes on in the "Twitter World" like the Fabolous and Ray J "beef".

Might consider keeping the Twitter account just to keep up with the celebrity gossip!

Brand New Brand

A brand worth a billionith fafillith trillion dollars, that even Austin Powers wouldn't be able to put a numerical value on it!

My brand is based on three main characteristics that are essential for my brand's success. Polite, Agressive and Positive.

POLITE people are need everywhere. Being polite promotes a great customer service and will get the customers to happily continue doing business with me.

AGRESSIVE characteristic will allow you to take the big gamble that will maximize performance. When You agressive gets you in a mess, refer to your first characteristic to help you get out of it.

POSITIVE personality brings the best environment regardless of the circumstances. The worse thing you want to do is show that the situation isn't under control even if it isn't. If it is, you have to make the best out of it.

If I follow these steps, the government might have to start printing million dollar bills!

SoundHound What?

Every now and then Facebook has a new update, half the time I’m annoyed with it because it’s just something else I have to get used to, when I just had gotten the hang of the update before that.

I guess not all the changes on Facebook are that bad. Facebook is like a dog on a leash its everywhere! Almost every app that I have on my iPhone is linked to Facebook.

So the other day my cousin had a post on Facebook using an app called SoundHound. Curious to see what it was I downloaded it and fell in love with it.

You know when you’re in the car listening to the radio and that song that you really like comes on but don’t know the name of it? Well SoundHound fixes that, just bring up the app and press the button that says “Tap Here” and it’ll listen to the song and within seconds bring up the name of the song, the artist and the album. You have the option of sharing it on facebook with your friends as well.

I find it to be a very handy application, well at least to me, since I love listening to music and can never get the right name of the song. It just makes it easier to download.

Guide to the Future

After I wrote my personal brand I really thought about what I want to do with social media. In the first class I mentioned I want to start my own blog after this class and I still have that goal.

In my blog I want to be able to reach out to people that have the same interests as me and can really understand where I'm coming from. I have alot of different interests, ideas, and opinions so I think I can reach all kinds of people.

Professionally i'm on the fence with letting people know that I will have this blog. I certainly don't want to offend co-workers or employers with the crazy things that i come up with.

As i said i could potentionally have a pretty big target audience that i can relate with. At first i know that it will be mainly friends reading my blog and hopefully some of my classmates. But i want to go bigger! I want people to constantly be talking about my blog.

I have a pretty simple plan for how i'm going to reach all these people and it's through social media. I can get my blog on twitter and facebook and since i'm just a 22 year old girl from Jersesy word of mouth will be my best bet.

My blog will touch on subjects that people all over are talking about like famous people, world issues, music, famous trials, just about everything i can think of. I would love to hear what people want to talk about and make a disscussion out of it.

Since i fear people like my employer seeing what i have to say outside work i'm going to have to be open and honest about what i'm doing. I'm going to have to change with the culture and what is currently going on. I want and need full control over my blog and my life. Hopefully my personal life and professional life will mix perfectly.

Once i start my blog i'm hoping people will start to follow it and i can gain exposure to businesses. Eventually i would love if people would ask to advertise on it so i could potentionally make a small amount of money doing something that is so much fun.

I want to be able to dedicate 2-3 nights a week on my blog and find interesting things to talk about and other days be able to interact with my followers. I don't want this blog to be a place where i can't answer people or engage in conversation.

Maybe some of you could let me know if you'd be intereted in following a blog like the one i've been explaining and let me know if my social media plan would be effective!!

New Social Media Tricks!

I am addicted to Twitter and love knowing what all my favorite celebrities are doing. I don't follow many businesses like i know alot of people do so this week i decided to try it.

I like getting updates on the new things that are going on with the business. I started following my friends employment business and it's cool to see that they post a new job every time one comes up on their site! The twitter for them is called @Zaloot.

This week i also tried Flickr. I didn't make an account but i searched around the site to see what it was all about. I didn't really see much that caught my eye but i could see how it'd be a very good site for people who are passionate about photography.

Instead of seeing peoples weekend photos Flickr has nice pictures that people take serious so it is a cool idea.

Living Life Like it is Shark Week

College Loans are awful. I think every college student and alum can agree. As a struggling young adult you enter college thinking "O yeaa loans aren't going to be hard to pay back at all, let me get as many as I can." Well I was wrong. Heading into my senior year at Widener University I came to a crossroads in my life. Tuition grew 24% since my Freshman year and I have to pay for school myself. Even with good grades and playing a sport I was not able to obtain the money to continue my education even though I had 2 semesters to go.
I then made the decision to apply for an internship and work for a semester, get credit and have some money so I can pay for school. After 3 weeks I was offered a fulltime job in the marketing industry. I thought I would be there a short time, but 8 months later I am still there working full time and taking classes as night. Who would have thought coming into college this is what I was going to do just for that certificate.
Who would have thought that even though I currently do not have my degree I have full time position at a great workplace. You get a degree to get a job. I feel like I am doing the opposite; I am going to work to get a degree. Don't live life by planning it. You are going to come to forks in the road and let your heart take you the way it feels not the way you want. Cheers.

Lidia Yadlos, A Working Progress!

For the record, I was never into Social Media, not even Facebook.  I know, it's hard to imagine; I guess I'm an old fashioned kind of girl when it comes to socializing and networking...  Don't get me wrong, I love meeting new people and building relationships, yet I've always felt more comfortable socializing in person rather than via Internet.

Being a Marketing Major, I started to feel pressured that I wasn't engaged in any kind of Social Media community, not only because all my friends happen to be engaged in some form of Social Media, but I felt embarrassed that I was falling behind in my professional networking progress.

So towards the end of the summer, I had my closest girlfriends help me start-up a Twitter, since they had suggested it would be the easiest type of Social Media to keep up with...  At that time, I had also opened an account with LinkedIn, but never came anywhere close to completing my profile.

I always imagined that Social Media would be something like hair maintenance (with exception of it being costly):  a hassle, always conscientious for a change / new looks, and a definite MUST in keeping up with, or I'd let myself go and look like crap!

To my surprise, Twitter has turned out to be a great experience rather than thinking it would be high-maintenance and dreadful.  I find myself using it on a daily basis by building my network with followers, and getting my news feeds in for the day by skimming all the tweets and news links to the magazines and newspapers I follow.  (NY Times, one of my many followings, has awesome news feeds, to any of you that have a Twitter account.)

Twitter is great, now that I got the hang of it, but to say that’s my only social media engagement is pathetic to my standards.  I am on a mission to develop a personal Social Media plan and BRAND my name! I've already taken the first step to creating a LinkedIn account; hence, this is a great tool to expand on to build my personal brand, as well as, a professional network.

It really didn't take much time, and the best part was that I already had all the information I needed to fill out my profile; 85% complete thus far! Very exciting...  And with the help of my boyfriend’s LinkedIn network, I was able to send invitations to a bunch of people I already knew.  Also, helps that a lot of these poeple are much older than me, and have impressive professional backgrounds; I believe this will help my profile appear more attractive and well-rounded.

This is great progress on my journey in developing my personal brand, but it's not stopping here!  Two weeks ago I had an amazing opportunity, to take part in creating a music video with Red Eye Entertainment, a start-up production company.  Yes, I am featured in the video, but it really won't have any kind of significance, unless I integrate it into my Social Media plan.

When the music video is edited and ready to go, I plan on posting it on YouTube and creating a link to my Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.  Not only will this help promote my brand, but I will also create a link to Red Eye Entertainment, which can help channel new viewers to their start-up company; all about networking!

A round of applause to me!  For someone who literally just started using Social Media, I am proud of my progress thus far...  The hardest part was realizing my goal, and that is branding my name.  The following is easy:  regularly using my accounts to stay engaged in my social network, which will also help me learn more about it, and be conscientious of new ways to utilize social media as I build my brand reputation.

I'll be keeping my eyes open for new Social Media accounts to diversify my brand network; the idea of this, sounds like I'm building an investment portfolio, hehe.  I use correlations with concepts I already know to help myself better understand Social Media.  Ultimately, it comes down to doing what works for me... And as for you:  be proactive and "do you!"

My Life, My Brand, My Gameplan

Junior in college, still trying to figure out what it is exactly I want to do. They say pick something that you love and you will be happy doing. So what is it that I love? Food! What do I want to do with my major, Advertising. So why not start from there, I'm a determined young woman that is eager to learn and take opportunities that will further my career in the food advertising industry.

My favorite part of the meal is the dessert, and what best to advertise dessert would be to the kids! Once the kids want something they usually get it.

A message to the kids would have to be something they will relate to. It has to be catchy and to rhyme so it may be easy for them to remember.

Advertisement for such deserts and treats should be streamed during children shows. For example the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, ABC Family and any after school show or Saturday mornings shows. This would catch the attention of the children to urge their parents to bring them to places that have these sweets or to buy ingredients in order to make for them . A fun character to add on the advertisements may also grab the children attention. It is all about subliminal messages to make these kids want and get. Basically make the advertisement fun!

Tasty Sweets are yummy treats for little feet!

At the end of the day I'm a young woman who will be in the food advertising industry and will be successful!

Living Today, Dreaming Big for Tomorrow.

I often wish to go back in time to ten years ago but i know those “good times” are part of yesterday.

Today is the new tomorrow, and tomorrow means it’s time to start thinking about the future.

When I say the future, I don’t mean sticking with what is considered a well-paid job for another two to five years. That’s for now, not tomorrow, not next year.

Thinking about next year sounds like a long time ahead, but last minute arrangements have never been my thing. I need to have a strategy to get me to work in the business field.

Yes, my assistant manager experience will help but I don’t want to limit myself to just opening A business. I would like to target international markets someday.

Having an oversea business means that you need to do double the work needed for a local business, but with social networking sites like FACEBOOK AND TWITTER, researching c0nsumers' needs and likes has become easier.

Social media sites will definitely be a big help for my career path. Sure, there are a few steps before opening a business, but once they’re done, i can guarantee that a website, Facebook/Twitter page linked to my personal networks and advertisement in sites where my audience hangs out will happen.

It will take my soon to come business to the next level. I don’t have a finished business plan yet, but im slowly working on it as my graduation date arrives.

All there's left for now is to get involved in the business world by taking notice of what is in, staying up to date with hot markets, using work experience as reference, asking my boss and others for recommendations, and continuing to spread ideas with people who share the same aspirations.

It seems “hard” but my motivation to be my own leader will not let me down.

Don't Be Afraid to GAWK

Let's see....a normal week for me goes a little something like this:
  • Monday - Work and then school til 8:45Pm
  • Tuesday - Work and school until 10:00pm
  • Wednesday - Work and homework until the wee hours of the morning
  • Thursday - Work and school until 10:00 pm
  • Friday - Work and maybe hang out for a few hour after work but then more homework...Professors take note :)
  • Saturday - Yes, I have to work on the weekend too
  • Sunday - Guess what? Yup, work again
So you can see I have very little down time or time to catch up with my family or friends and even less time to catch up on all the crazy news items that don't warrant a 2 minute piece on Good Morning America.

The social media blog Gawker is how I keep up on the things going on in the world around me.  Regular news, obscure news, celebrity new, and commentary on all these are what you can find on the site.
Stories like this:
http://gawker.com/5850176/airlift-hand-sanitizer-to-occupy-wall-streeters-posthaste

And this:
http://gawker.com/5850121/sonic-youth-super+couple-splitting

and this: http://gawker.com/5849610/live-blogging-project-runway-week-12
are just a few examples of the blog stories you can find on Gawker.  Followers of this site are allowed to comment whatever they like and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of censorship.

That would  be my first recommendation to the authors of these blogs - - create some sort of screening so that really distasteful comments can be hidden.

The second recommendation I would make is that all authors respond to their commenter.  I find that a few of the authors actually engage with the followers but most do not.  Those authors who do engage with their followers are more argumentative than they should be.  That should definitely change.

The last recommendation I would make is that it is hard to find old news postings.  You have to go page by page to see each dates postings.  If you missed a day and want to go to that particular day you should be able to select an archived date.

When i have some time, I'm going to suggest these recommendations to Gawker...um, yeah when I have some time.

Where have all the business cards gone?

A few weeks ago I created a LinkedIn account.  I was really curious to see how this social media network would be able to help me in my professional life.

I created my account and immediately I was sent a list of possible contacts.  I was surprised at how many of my peers were already using LinkedIn and connecting with one another.  I felt a little put out that it had taken me so long to catch on to what so many others have already discovered.

Now I have to admit that initially I did not fully complete a profile on my account so this week I have taken the time to flesh out how I really want to be portrayed on this site as it is seen by so many of my colleagues.

LinkedIn has so far provided me access to many vendors and retailers that I would never even known existed.  I have been contacted by many professionals who want to connect with me and I think that is such an incredible asset.

I do, however, have to be careful who I allow to "connect" with me.  I could end up having the wrong type of people connected to me and my list of professional contacts.

Other than that, LinkedIn is a great tool to connect with your peers, make business contacts, and see possible job opportunities.  Yes, LinkedIn even sent me an email about job opportunities that were geared towards my current expertise and skills.

I am now using LinkedIn as an address book/Rolodex and its easier to keep up to date on my contacts if they have gotten promotions or changed jobs.

Much easier than collecting those impersonal business cards!

Uno, Dos, Tres Action!

To be completely frank, I never really thought of a strategy at this point in my life – especially one pertaining to social media.

After a career in Marketing/Design, I knew it was my calling. So I guess you can say my first plan of action (although not a social media strategy) was to get my behind back in school to pursue a Marketing degree.

Sure I dabble with facebook a little, but not enough. I never got into Twitter, and only use it for work because it’s mandatory. I guess I was always turned off by the typical standard of ignorance marked "I have no interest in Lindsey Lohan’s next court hearing".

Still, the notion of networking has always been there, but looking at it as a neighborhood that I could both add value and pull value was something I didn’t really consider.

There wasn't a specific "What's my strategy?" plan of action. Although it’s something I definitely need to think hard about once I get near my graduation date: creating awareness about my image.

And maybe….juuuuuuust maybe, Twitter will be a newfound friend.

Now (I can’t promise that) what I am about to write below is something that will be put into fruition. But writing about it is certainly a beginning.

Step uno: Creating a long-term successful plan by putting my brand all across the web “globe”. That means having a unified username and using it everywhere. And I mean everywhere.

Regardless of whether or not I plan to use it, better to do that than kick myself later when it’s already been grabbed. A unified social media username will establish trust with other social media members who could very well belong to shared multiple communities.

A great way for potential career contacts to know that I'm the same person on multiple networks without confusion.

Step dos: Getting more involved in LinkedIn. With a plethora of networks stemming from friends, it is the crème de la crème of career networking. And with many close friends who either reside or work in the city, they are ties to important connections.

Step tres: Join or form platforms and continually engage myself in social communities to create buzz around “Jenn Olivencia”. Reaching out and participating in discussions that are related to marketing, tradeshows, brand awareness and graphic design.

If I don’t have a connection within these communities, how can I possibly expose what I am about and what I do?

This also goes with helping to lighten their load or make them smile. Responding with links to different resources that people will appreciate will also give me a chance to promote myself (without seeming intrusive).

The more I listen (and can possible guide others to solutions or at least a resource they can use) will cause others to notice.

And who knows, the more I participate, the more I can kick my strategic plan into high gear; leveraging a momentum to create an awareness of what I bring to the table. Then hopefully in return, having doors and opportunities open up for me.

Facebook, Twitter & Linkedin! Which is better?

I have been using Twitter for about 2 years now & in my opinion this is the BEST social media website on the internet. Since I singed up to Twitter I have managed 3 accounts.

I managed a online boutique account, my personal account and now I manage a non-profit performing arts twitter account. This social media tool has helped me gain local, international and celebrity awareness for brands that I am associated with.

I personally like twitter better than any other social media site because unlike Facebook celebrities are more likely to answer your 'tweets' quicker than they will respond to a Facebook message.

I have been able to speak to the Mayor of Newark, connect with famous alumni from my high school (Arts High School), bring brand awareness to companies that I am apart of & generate new clients for my event planning business all through Twitter.

I have seen people complain about a company on twitter & the company would tweet them back apologizing for the inconvenience and give them a solution to their problem. Twitter in my opinion is for random and promotional use only; either you are tweeting about random things or you are promoting a event, company, brand, music or television show. Twitter is extremely entertaining.

Facebook is a great 'catching up' tool. I use Facebook when I want to check up on people or see what they have been up too.

Facebook allows you to add photo albums, job history and relationship statues. Facebook is a great social media tool to reconnect with people that live in a different country or that you have lost contact with in the last couple of years.

Many people use Facebook to find their long lost friends and keeping in contact with people. One thing that I loved that Facebook did and kind of gave them an edge was to add a 'fan page' tool.

The fan page can be used to promote a company, a band, music group, brand or anything that you want to promote. People have actually used their fan pages in media kits and business plans to show how people on the internet are reacting to their product.

I used the Facebook fan page to promote a company that I am a PR Director for (www.facebook.com/livebreatheart) and it has helped us visually see who are demographics are and how we can appeal to them.

I am not an vivid user on LinkedIn but for the one day that I actually sat down and took time to browse the site and put my information on the site.

I think that this is a great business site for people to network and interact with some very influential people.

Trump & Beauties Take Center Stage

Hey all,

My dear friend Ravi Yandi, a reporter, (www.ravireport.com) sent me an email about a press event he attended. Please rease below and check it out.

"Jenn! Hope you all are doing well my doll.

When you get a moment, please do review my recent posting regarding superstar Donald Trump and some of his beautiful friends on The Ravi Report. The story is doing very well.

It has gotten over 8K so far - I am so excited!

Find Me At Foursquare

Foursquare is a location-based social networking site that allows you to "check in" at venues through your mobile device like an iPad.

It's a great idea but doesn't leave the user much else to do other than check in.

So why does Foursquare have 3 million check-ins a day?

Users are able to "check-in" at venues using a mobile website, text message, or the application, and selecting from a list of nearby locations. Foursquare does give out "badges" as incentives for checking in at all kinds of different locations.

To me at least, it doesn't offer as much to the social media user as Facebook or Twitter. Maybe that's why it's not nearly as popular as Facebook or Twitter. But you may have seen people checking in through Foursquare on your Facebook news feeds as I have in the past.

There are of course the average Foursquare users like me. But it's celebrities that are just recently showing up like [who].

I'd imagine that celebrities would check in at a concert or scheduled appearance as a way to promote it otherwise, checking in at Starbucks could create unwanted attention.

Some companies are getting on board with Foursquare, such as Zagat, which leaves reviews and tips on good places to eat like [where].

I wasn't too familiar with Foursquare and what it was all about before - but after checking it out, I'm going to stick with it and see what it's all about.
