Connecting to the Next Step

Every Sunday, is "Football Sunday" at my brother's house. The guys sit around watch the games all day and drink beer, while all the girls are in the kitchen inventing things to make, and of course we use the guys as our little guinea pigs.

Now I'm not looking to be a chef or a baker, but just to simply advertise for what I have passion for. Even though I'm a junior in college, I feel like I still have time to figure out my plan, but in reality I don't.

The marketing field is a competitive field, so what I need to do is start looking for connections to help me have a foot in, for when I am ready to begin my career.

My Target Audience:
My target audience would be marketing agencies, advertising agencies, restaurant/baking groups, marketing executives, etc.

List of Search Words:
Advertising
Restaurants
Bakeries
Marketing
Advertising Agencies

Where They are Hanging Out:
When I typed in these search words into the search engines, many of the place I found them to be "Hanging out" online were :
Facebook
Yelp
LinkedIn
4A's Inkblot

How my Target Audience can Find Me:
The way to get yourself out there and known, is not by just going out to find your target audience, but also find a way to make it easy for them to find you. Words to describe my personal brand so they can find me through social media tools would be:

Foodie
Student
Intern
Marketing
Advertiser
Optometrist Tech (currently at the moment)

Combining these words with the list of words describing my target audience, makes it easier for future employers (my target audience) to find me quicker. It doesn't even have to be future employers but people who share the same interests as me, which is always a plus because it can expand my connections, leading to employment opportunities.

Strategies In Engaging:
Since I want to work in the Marketing/Advertising Field, best way to get in the field is through connections! As I mentioned before my cousin works for BakeMark USA, My first connection right there!

Me and him are friends on LinkedIn, I could start connecting with some of the groups that he's LinkedIn with, especially since the field he is in deals with food!

I can also start to follow other groups on Facebook, Yelp, 4A's Inkblot, etc, and begin to get a feel of where and how I can better promote my brand!

Editing Mode

Through out the semester, we've done several blogs, if your like me then before this class you probably have never blogged before.

At first all I really thought of blogging was to write whatever you wanted and how you felt, although that is still true, throughout the class we've learned about blogging writing techniques.

Blogging to me was like a baby learning how to walk, baby steps! Throughout the semester I believe to have gotten more comfortable with it and definitely noticed a different from when I first started, so I decided to go back and edit my old postings.

I went back to my post "SoundHound What?" and "A Dose Of Perez Hilton's own Medicine" and added visuals, to make it more attracting to read. I went back and did spell check on all of my posts and checked for grammar and went back and hyperlinked big names.

Blogging is something I would of never considered doing, but now that I've tried it, I think it's pretty cool.

Advertising Myself to Advertise Food- Take 2!

MY BRAND?
I'm a determined young woman who wants to work in the advertising industry, preferably marketing for food, being my guilty pleasure is indulging in food!

OBJECTIVES:
Since I want to work in the advertising industry, why not start by marketing myself!
Talk to anyone that knows me and the first thing they will tell you about me is, "Boy can she eat!" Food equals Jenny!

To me food is the answer to all my problems, it always has a way of making everything better. No matter what type of day I'm having, bad or good I know I can always turn to food to be there. What can I say, I love food, the smell, the taste, that great full feeling after!

Food is universal, a common language that everyone understands. It comes in different tastes and forms. They say do something that makes you happy, food makes me happy, so why not market something I love.

CHANNELS AND STRATEGY:

Before this class the only social media tool, that I used was Facebook. Since this class, I've started a LinkedIn account as well as a Twitter. Perfect ways for me to start networking and getting myself out there.

I advertise food and restaurants all the time on my Facebook and Twitter account to my friends and family.

On Facebook I usually use the check-in tool when ever I'm out to eat at a restaurant, it shows people where I am, and make people curious of where the restaurant is, in a way that is subliminally promoting their food and restaurant.

It’s something that comes natural to me, except now I have to start thinking professionally and begin to network with people who work in food industries and advertising agencies.

My cousin currently works for the company BakeMark USA, a sales representative where he goes around to different businesses selling the companies ingredients and pastries.

He is constantly bringing me treats, and I normally take a picture of the pastries and post them on Facebook describing how delicious they are. When people ask me about the treats I give them my cousin’s business card.

So in a way, I am already advertising food,
I'm getting his company's name out there. My cousin thanks me all the time for the help even though I don’t do it intentionally.

Being my cousin is already in the field I want to be in he has told me he can help me network with companies on LinkedIn since he’s already networking with them, maybe even work in his company.

AUDIENCE:
My main target audience, would be directly towards house wives, women and whoever enjoys food. Mostly people dealing with food and women who take care of their families.

MESSAGE:
I'm not really sure if this is the exact road I'll take to get where I want be in a few years, but hey it’s a start, a girl can dream and my dreams will come true.

I will work to advertise for what I love, and that’s food!

SoundHound What?

Every now and then Facebook has a new update, half the time I’m annoyed with it because it’s just something else I have to get used to, when I just had gotten the hang of the update before that.

I guess not all the changes on Facebook are that bad. Facebook is like a dog on a leash its everywhere! Almost every app that I have on my iPhone is linked to Facebook.

So the other day my cousin had a post on Facebook using an app called SoundHound. Curious to see what it was I downloaded it and fell in love with it.

You know when you’re in the car listening to the radio and that song that you really like comes on but don’t know the name of it? Well SoundHound fixes that, just bring up the app and press the button that says “Tap Here” and it’ll listen to the song and within seconds bring up the name of the song, the artist and the album. You have the option of sharing it on facebook with your friends as well.

I find it to be a very handy application, well at least to me, since I love listening to music and can never get the right name of the song. It just makes it easier to download.

My Life, My Brand, My Gameplan

Junior in college, still trying to figure out what it is exactly I want to do. They say pick something that you love and you will be happy doing. So what is it that I love? Food! What do I want to do with my major, Advertising. So why not start from there, I'm a determined young woman that is eager to learn and take opportunities that will further my career in the food advertising industry.

My favorite part of the meal is the dessert, and what best to advertise dessert would be to the kids! Once the kids want something they usually get it.

A message to the kids would have to be something they will relate to. It has to be catchy and to rhyme so it may be easy for them to remember.

Advertisement for such deserts and treats should be streamed during children shows. For example the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, ABC Family and any after school show or Saturday mornings shows. This would catch the attention of the children to urge their parents to bring them to places that have these sweets or to buy ingredients in order to make for them . A fun character to add on the advertisements may also grab the children attention. It is all about subliminal messages to make these kids want and get. Basically make the advertisement fun!

Tasty Sweets are yummy treats for little feet!

At the end of the day I'm a young woman who will be in the food advertising industry and will be successful!

A Taste of Perez Hilton's own dose!

So who doesn't love a good gossip? Perez Hilton's blog is a good website to here celebrity gossip, even if some are just rumors.

Perez is constantly always finding a way to talk about celebs whether it be good or bad, half of the time its just plain bad, bad but good gossip!

So instead of listening to things that celebs do wrong, lets turn the tables on Perez, give him a dose of his own medicine.

Anyone who follows Perez's blog will notice that he ends almost every post with a question. Hey, I'm all for wanting to here others opinions, but if your gonna end you post with a question and have followers reply, at least write back! Interact with your followers, keep them coming back for more and let them know your listening.

Perez's blogs are short and sweet, but are they too short? I mean yeah there easy to read, but sometimes I feel there's something missing or like I haven't gotten the full scoop. Especially if its a good story, don't leave me hanging!

Now for those who have been to Perez's website will notice that he has way to many blogs to keep up with!
"CocoPerez, FitPerez, TeddyHilton, and Perezitos"
He needs to consolidate all these blogs into one, so his followers could keep up more with celebrity gossip. Its too many pages to click!

Overall Perez, you keep me entertained with all this celebrity gossip, keep it coming Queen of Media!

What's up with Branding my Name?

In my first year of college I had an assignment for my speech communication class in which I had to write a paper on how people perceived me. I had to ask several people what they thought of me and every one's first thought was outgoing. So what do I think makes my personal brand?

Outgoing-In marketing, one has to be outgoing because this industry deals with one's interactions with different clients and companies. These interactions depend heavily on your personality. If one is outgoing and easy to get along with, positive feedback will be received and ultimately will help with professional advancement and personal relationships.

Determined- Since I was 16, I never wanted to have to depend on my parents for anything. I wanted to be self sufficient at a young age. In efforts to accomplish this goal, I was determined to work while attending school. At first, it was very difficult given the amount of time I had to spend away from friends and my boyfriend. I am proud to say that since high school, I have been working to support myself. This experience has shown me when I put my mind towards accomplishing a goal, I show the determination necessary to achieve them.

Spontaneous-I enjoy having a good time, even though I'm organized, not everything in my life is planned out. I enjoy taking risks and take life as it comes. When opportunity knocks I take it.

The brand name I can only think to give myself is Jennifer Campos, and whatever I end up doing I will succeed in!

Social Media bring Success to Companies!

Social media has become such a necessity in today's world, that its almost impossible to go on without it in today's society. Whether it be for social purposes, networking, blogging, streaming videos, etc. Social media has quickly moved its way into something we can no longer be without.

That being said companies have also hopped on to the social media train, in order to help bring more success to their company. We have become so dependent in technology, that its almost like if you don't engage in social media, who are you? The way that society is now, its necessary for companies to engage in social media to increase productivity, sales therefore increasing their revenue.

Engaging employees in social media you can have your companies brand name promoted in several different ways, through blogs, forums, social networks, etc. When employees and companies interact with each other and their customers they begin to form some type of relationship, in which if satisfied you keep them coming back for more.

In the slides, "Getting your Company Ready", one of the statements is "Many companies do not engage with their customers", and then has them ranked according to how they rank in social media. You would be surprised, that some of the most known brands did not rank as high.

Big companies like Volkswagon and BP the gas station fell under low engagement and low presence. Companies like this are well known but don't do much of social media to engage with one another and their customers.

I drive a Volkswagen, but now that I think about it, why am I drinking a VW? There's nothing I can remember really that the company did to bring me in, except for me seeing it on the street and thinking "Oh that's a cute car!" Unlike VW, Honda has a more effective way of using social media and you can see the difference and why Honda is more of a successful company. If you look at their facebook pages you see the difference between Honda and Volkswagen is the interaction with their customers!

6 Steps, 1 Brand!

Okay so I'm still new to this whole Social Media concept, but I am quickly beginning to understand why it is important, and the benefits that can come from it in my future, which is why these 6 steps, can help me in building my personal brand.

1. Determine your objective
By me knowing what I want to accomplish and how I'm willing to do it. What is the message that I want to give to my audience. I don't really tweet or blog, I use Facebook more often, but by having a facebook, twitter, and now a blog I am helping myself build a personal brand so it can help me in the future to network with companies and people.

2.Determine your audience's aptitude
Put myself in my audience's shoes and trying to figure out what they would enjoy to read. Figuring out what makes me different from everyone else can help me in building my personal brand.

3. Carefully select your platforms and tools
Me staying on top of my strategy and being consistent, so I wont lose my audience to others.

4. Avoid content overload-curate the most interesting pieces
Don't beat around the bush and get straight to the point. Too much information will bore my audience. Stick to the script and get my point out there, but also make it interesting to read that it leaves your audience wanting more.

5. Empower your employees to build their personal brand
Well I don't have any employees to empower to build their personal brand, but to friends and everyone else I would recommend putting themselves out there through social media, such as forums, blogs, facebook, twitter, etc.. Its a great way to network with people and businesses.

6. Measure the initiative's success against your objectives
Receive feedback from my audience to know what I can improve on and to know what is or isn't working. Giving good unique content that people haven't seen before will differentiate me from the rest of the crowd, helping me build my personal brand.

Cheers to the First

Hey guys,

So like many of you guys, I as well am new to blogging, still trying to get the hang of it.
I think it makes sense for our class to have a blog because it is a social media class. Social media has a huge impact on everyday life and everything we do.

I honestly had no idea what social media was really about and how much of a deal it really is. I feel we could all learn more about whats going on in the world with everyone's different opinions.

There's a few blogs that I actually follow, www.perezhilton.com and www.failblog.com. I'm a girl so of course I love good gossip, especially about celebrities. He's also very funny.

I also enjoy a good laugh which is why I always follow FAIL BLOG, I love seeing all the stupid things that go on in the world, and the stuff people attempt to do which go bad.
