Thanksgiving Advice
Usually I'm home all day, watching movies just smelling all of the delicious food get ready and wait for my brother and his family to come over. But this year I was on my way back from Atlantic City, which was even better because by the time I got home all I had to do was get dressed and get ready to eat!
So we're all at the dinner table, conversing, eating and laughing, then I remembered I had to bring up my personal brand. So I did!
I mean at first my they were all confused, but once I explained a little more they understood what I meant. Of course my joking father was the first to have input and say "No way YOU wanna work with something that deals with food? Who would of guessed?"Everyone laughed of coursed.
So I guess they agreed with me on one thing, I have a passion for food. My brother was the next one to bring up that he agreed with my dedication and drive, especially when its something I love, and he thought I'd be great at finding ways to advertise for food.
What he did give advice on was on my LinkedIn page, which me and him are friends on. He said based on what I had just mentioned to them about my personal brand I should begin to network more with my cousin who works for BakeMart and get interact more with their marketing executives and see if they have any advice for me.
Everyone else seemed to agree with my personal brand, some even said they had already seen me having some type of career where I dealt with food in some type of way.

Toys for Hots
Millions of children each year go without a new toy to make friends with on Christmas morning. Toys for Tots, a charity organization aimed toward bringing this joy to kids, has just been revamped by Kean University's Monday Night Media Mix.
On December 17th at the Cougar's Den from 2-5 PM, come with a toy and leave with a new boy/girl toy at our first ever Toys For Hots event!

Ad Libs For Mad Libs
Up until I was about 12yrs old, Thanksgiving dinners always had a twist of entertainment – thanks to my sister and I. We’d “perform” magic tricks that would normally end in one of us crying because someone in the family would laugh at how “cute” our tricks were.
As time went by and we grew up, my nephew became our successor. So now family get-togethers is a whirlwind of Mad Libs entertainment…which is exactly what he turned my brand into.
And what did everyone throw into Jenn Olivencia’s Mad Libs word bin?
Oh, and we can’t forget “mean” as per my nephew. And that’s because I refuse to get him video games for birthdays and Christmas.
As for the adjectives my family said about me, we all are in harmony with what I think about myself and what they think of me.
I’ve never asked my family what they really think of me and it was pretty interesting to hear the different verbs and adjectives they associate me with and also to receive accolades on my journey for personal and career growth.
My parents and I aren’t very close to each other, so to hear them say I was persevering and bona fide made me beam inside.
Little do they know, they are my silent inspirations, so it’s very imperative to me that I keep on suceeding.
Applying this to my personal brand won’t be complicated because it’s the attributes that I pretty much possess. I guess the only thing I can try to flexibly mold myself to is my nephews request of being a more “cool” aunt.
Family Advice
There were a wide range of answers from suport to critizizm but I tried to focus on getting the best ones that will help develop my personal brand to the level that I desire.
One feedback I recieved from an uncle was that I should try to find other ways to interact with my target adieace other that solely focusing on social media.
Since Ill be dealing with a pretty wide range age group that did seem like it made sense. A lot of kids don't strictly depend on social media to get advice and tips.
Another Feedback i received from a cousin was based on how he admired my personal brand and that it made sense for me to give back to kids what was once given to me.
He also felt that I should incorporate that idea of unselfishness towards my brand to show an even more positive nature of my personal brand. (I plan to really focus on this idea because I felt that this was the best feedback I have gotten.)
Another feedback I obtained from a family member was that it was a great idea and that the use of social media is an excellent way to attract the attention of my target audience because nowadays that where they all hang out.

Cleaning the Corporate House
Cleaning up our blog. I have now deleted and made some changes to my blog posts.
We want a uniform look and feel to our blog, so I've deleted some of my "drafts" if you will.
Look and feel is important to our blog as is it to any company's collaboration of sales tools.
Whether it is a sales presentation or collateral leave behind, everything should fall under a "corporate" look and feel.
While doing marketing for a smart grid technology company, I was tasked to clean up our current portfolio of sales tools.
I took apart our collateral, and rebuilt it within a theme.
I did the same for the powerpoints.
Version control is an important aspect in doing this.
You can't have different members within the company using different versions of these tools.
How do you control these things?
Well I'll tell you that I implemented a central point of contact. I used our Intranet as the On Demand Download center.
Everything our sales team or other users of the tools needed could be found on the Intranet. They could rely on getting their source material from one central location.
Updated versions always had the priority of getting posted on the Intranet. This way, these people could relay on the fact that the most current version was updated and uploaded for them to use on that site.
We also had access to new collateral from this site. It was called our On Demand Brochure system. They could always order more collateral right from the Intranet site.
They could specify shipping times/dates along with the quantity needed.
We also gave a style guide and posted it on the Intranet website. The style guide included guidelines that we wanted in order to keep a certain look and feel.
The guidelines included: font types, Powerpoint guidelines for graphs & charts, color schemes, Pantone colors (PMS), correct logo usage, just to name a few.
These are all very important attributes to a company's look and feel, which is why it is a very good habbit to get into while doing the blog in this class. I guarantee that it won't be the last time you see an attempt for uniformity.

Let's Talk While You Eat.
For the first time, I was scheduled to work on thanksgiving day. Work made me missed getting dinner done with my brothers, or as my mom calls it “bonding time”.
But even though I didn’t get the chance to help out, I was in time for dinner and I even made it before my aunts, uncles, and cousins got to the house.
I have a big family and ever since I turned fifteen and moved to the adult table, I hear the same “remember that time” stories. It gets a little boring sometimes.
Well this year was different, while everybody was too busy eating and remembering the old times I decided to announce my personal brand.
Everybody was actually glad that I was talking about how I was doing in school, it reminded them that there are a few more weeks till im done.
My mom sort of knew about my blogging, but when I told her about my linkedin and twitter, she seemed very interested and even told me that what I had in mind was a good idea.
she also reminded me why she keeps telling me to make connections thru work and why I must engage myself with people who I think will help me in the future.
My aunt understood, agreed with all of the characteristics that I picked to described myself, gave me a phone number and email address of a person who she feels will be able to get me more involved in the business that im aiming to.
Which reminds me- I need to contact her as soon as possible.
My dad has never really been a social media guy, he’s old-fashioned. But after explaining it to him. He was glad to hear that I actually want to be my own boss, and not work for anyone else.
He likes to see that im planning ahead and is actually looking forward to see me put my goals into action.
The rest of the family gave me positive feedback as well, some didn’t really understand what I was talking about and just changed the topic.
But I personally didn’t really care if the rest liked my personal brand or not. I was just glad that my parents did because I want them to see that they’ve made a good investment with me.

Open Forum at the Dinner Table
So it went a little like this…
Everyone was talking at the same time. My brothers, my sister, my mother and a few friends of the family all had something to say.
I was pretty nervous about the whole thing. I took a deep breath and asked everyone to feel free to give me their thought about how I was promoting my Personal Brand.
The first reaction I got were confused faces no one really knew what I was talking about. I just threw the topic into discussion while everyone was distracted just to get their attention and hey, it worked!
After I had everyone’s attention I began describing “My Personal Brand” and how I felt it should be portrayed. Nervous and all I managed to clearly let them know what I had posted for our class blog.
Soon enough everyone decided to comment. Some of them were quite the jokesters about it, but in the end I received very positive feedback.
For the most part, my mother and my sister are very supportive and they were very proud of the fact that I stated, “I go above and beyond to help others”.
One of my brothers insisted I should touch more on the subject about me being “bossy” since I push to constantly get things done. My interpretation of his “bossy” was that I am determined and I don’t like to procrastinate.
My youngest brother’s response to my brand was, “yea ok”. He’s the joker that only admits that I am all these great things, but ONLY when were alone.
In a crowd of people he doesn’t really like to show his sweet side, but I know if I ask him again in a few years when he’s older with any crowd he will proudly advocate for me.
As for the friends we had over, because of the fact that every time they come over I am either getting home from work or leaving for school. They were happy to agree with how determined I am to do what I have to do.
Everyone’s responses were appreciated and I informed them I would mention them all on my next class blog. This is where they all wanted to know what I had to say about them.
What Lady Gaga, Turkey, and Personal Branding Have in Common
Lady Gaga, to me, has always been an inspiration for personal branding. Not because she's controversial or provocative, but because she has always stayed true to her personal brand.
In one segment of her special, A Very Gaga Thanksgiving, she made a couple of interesting points that summed up the consistency of her personal brand: she loves fashion and she loves music, and she does what she loves for her fans and her family.
This intimate conversation on national television gave me the perfect opportunity to bring my own personal brand up to my family and friends.
Everyone had the same consensus: the "eccentric" part of the eccentric marketing apprentice definitely fit.
My one cousin said marketing is perfect for me because I can "convince anyone that even murder is a good idea, so you should be good at selling things."
My brother proceeded to call me a nerd, so I assume that the apprentice aspect was accurate as well.
On Facebook, many of my friends noted that I should include my work ethic in my personal brand because it's always been an important part of my personality. One friend also mentioned that my stubbornness should fit in there somewhere as well, I responded in telling him I'm too stubborn to add that.
I am going to make sure to include my work ethic in my Linked-In as suggested. All in all, I believe it's safe to assume that I was on-point in creating my personal brand.

Turkey and Talk
I approached my mother first while we were cooking earlier that day, which was still hectic to say the least. I discussed what a personal brand was first to get her to understand what input I needed from her. I told her that my personal brand was about how I am a very hard worker, I do things the first time they are asked of me, I work well with others as well as individually, and how I believe I can be an ideal employee to a company.
Her reaction was hesitant at first, but then came around to understanding the concept and agreed all the things I listed I am. She sees me go from work to school, to homework every night. She knows I'm a dedicated person with a lot to offer. As she and I were running around the kitchen that was the last of our conversation of it.
I next moved on to my uncle, who I actually do work with daily. He, from seeing it first hand, said I should even add more to it. He says he wishes all employees can be as attentive and responsible as I am, and not only because I'm his niece but as a colleague.
I have to admit that was the last of the talk of my personal brand at Thanksgiving, between food and drinks and more food and more drinks, it just slipped my mind.
However, I did ask my cousin to look over my LinkedIn page when she got a chance and see if she would change anything or if she has any opinions for me to jazz it up for future employers. Again this was the the food and drinks mix, so I will keep reminding her until she gets back to me.
I will take into consideration what my mother and uncle said and see if I can add to my personal brand to make it more appealing to future employers.

So considering how I am an Accounting Major with hopes of jumping into the sports industry I feel like I have a few target audiences that can get me where I want to be.
I believe professionals in the sports and accounting industries are both two target audiences that I can target together or separately.
Considering how even though I would love to be an accountant in the sports industry, I am not ruling out being an accountant for another company not sports related.
Also, some of my other target audiences would be any companies offering internships in their accounting departments so that I will be able to acquire experience, and potential companies that can view my Linked In profile.

Hello Target. Nice to Meet You.
LinkedIn and Twitter will definitely be a help to get my name out there, it’s going to help me make connections at a greater extend, but I need to do more than just following the “right” people. I need to be involved.
Thanks to my target search words, I have found groups like Buy and Sell freely, ByTrade.com, International Commerce Club of New Jersey, and Retail Global Sourcing and Buying.
I haven’t had the chance to introduce myself in them, but I will make sure that I keep myself updated with their discussions and participate as much as possible. Hopefully, gaining a few connections.
I have also started reading entrepreneur.com, where so far I have engaged myself by commenting on articles that are relevant to what I’m studying and can learn from. When posting comments, it gives you option to either post as a guest, from my twitter (which I’ve been doing), or facebook account.
By doing this, Im positive that people will read/see my comments and will probably gain a few followers because there’s always people that are interested in learning about you. This will lead me to other connections, and expanding myself on getting to my target audience.
I have also thought about making business cards for myself as soon as I graduate. On it, I will make sure to have my email address, my linkedin, facebook and maybe even twitter links.
I plan on having them at work with the rest of business cards people leave and hanging them out to everybody I know and those who I meet on a daily basis.
I know not everybody will look me up but maybe out of 10 people, at least 5 will connect with me in one of the sites.
This is not a “from one day to another” progress. It takes time, but time will get me more connections and connections will help me succeed.

My target audience are tuned into NY radio stations, are on facebook and twitter, but also they're out and about painting the town red!
It is critical for my personal brand to not only engage with those on youtube, facebook, and twitter but to also connect with young people at the museum, the local pub, or even at the library. Sounds boring! But you'll be surprised by the people you find walking down the street.
If I were to search my audience on the internet I would find them under keywords such as young women/men in entertainment, film reviewers, concert goers, young entrepreneurs.
The intentions for my personal brand is too build something solid by word of mouth and underground, so when it becomes viral I could watch its impact on social media in real time.
Driving The Audience

-To engage my target audience I would use the social media tools available such as twitter or blogging to attract people to myself and let it be known how I can help their company further progress into the future.
-Attracting my target audience to my personal brand can be done through LinkedIn or other sites where I can comment on posts and try to build connections based on the information available and that I can offer.
-By grabbing peoples’ attention you can then use videos and other useful pages on the internet to attract them to your site and also having links to other pages that would interest them.
Driving my Target Market
-Forum based websites can be powerful ways to grab peoples’ attention about you and the ideas you are trying to get across. By answering and posting questions you can get a limitless amount of responses on topics you are looking for. Once you have their attention you can start to creatively inject the information about yourself once you have established yourself as someone who is well informed on the topic.
-Having them follow me on Twitter and then also redirecting them to my FB or LinkedIn Account.
-By reading what people post or comment on forums I can gain insight on what their interests or concerns are outside of their industry. This can create open dialogue for me to build a more personal relationship based on like mindedness. From there, this can stem into communicating about business prospects and endeavors.

Recipe For Personal Brand
-1 cup of Attraction: to attract my target with great content by writing blogs on facebook, producing a video talking about myself and what I have brought and can still bring to the table to a company. I would have to clearly communicate my values and qualities when you network and interview by standing out above my competition in career marketing materials (bio, resume, online profiles, etc.)
-3 teaspoons of Tracking and Responding: companies and marketing executives via networking sites and LinkedIn (reading posts and responding to ones that peak my interests).
-1/2 cup of Cross-Junction: of going into (say Twitter) and including a link to go to a different page of mine where they can view me further.
Ingredients for Driving my target market:
-4 tablespoons of Traffic Funneling: from other sites. While this strategy requires creativity, I can try to funnel traffic from popular media communities like: yelp, facebook, LinkedIn, RaviReport, and other communities. These are well established sites with an abundance of live visitors. By creating ways in which I can add something of value (without spamming) and “luring” visitors to my personal profiles.
- 3 cups of Interest Seeking: by creating questions on forums that will engage others to respond to what I’m inquiring about. Thus creating a doorway for further communication and like-minded interests.
-1 oz. of Feedback: from those who know my work and personal ethic. By me getting feedack from people who know me will evoke those who do not know me to be intrigued with “just who is Jenn Olivencia”.
Ingredient for Giving to audience:
-2 cups of Professional guidance: on what I have done in my profession, my successes, things that have failed, etc. This will be something that is done on a frequent basis so that my audience will keep on coming back.
On the Hunt to Find my Target Audience
I can begin by following their pages and blogs. I can start to build a relationship with them, by commenting and conversing with them.
In a way that is not badgering them but where I can be of a benefit to them.
Driving my target audience to my social media tools, might be a bit challenging but I could start by inviting them to follow my social media pages, my blogs. I could probably also use my cousin as a tool to drive them to my page by tagging him in some of my posts and linking my social media tools to his page, so people can view my pages.
One way to "give" my target audience something special that illustrates my personal brand, I guess since I really don't have much to offer, all I could really offer is my advice and opinion through my social media tools.

Waiting for the Fish to Bite...
My boyfriend, for instance, enjoys bow fishing. And yes, it's exactly what it sounds like: fishing with a bow and arrow.
There's two interesting parts to this, the first being that it's easier to bow fish at night so the fish won't see you. The second being is that there's no bait involved, just patience, good vision, and good aim.
This, essentially, is my social media plan. In engaging my target audience, the most important aspect is not to be seen as a sales pitch but to be seen as an insightful and creative personality.
- Commenting and following posts by potential recruiters and connections on LinkedIn
- Integrating blog posts into LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook to showcase communication and creativity
- Following potential companies on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook to integrate into posts, sites, connections, and information

Attracting The Right Audience
One way for the me to catch their attention is by going to the sites that they frequent and engaging in conversation with them. This could be by commenting on their site feedback or by posing questions at these sites.
In an effort to get the attention of my target audience, I commented on some posts on the "Network of Executive Women's" forum at the LinkedIn site. I have to admit that I have not had an opportunity to fully engage in the discussion board but this is a great way to attract my target audience.
Another way to target my audience is to "follow" a few on social network sites and again engage them in conversation and ask questions so that they know that I am truly interested in them. They then become interested in me and what I have to say.
I think that emails are a great tool to drive my audience to my LinkedIn page and my personal blog. Just adding the URL of each site to the signature of my emails can be useful in grabbing their attention.
Also after I have had dialogue with my audience and have created a relationship with them, I would invite them to check out my blog or join me on LinkedIn.
Now that I have their attention and have gotten them to "follow" me, I would offer them one free technique to retail success.
Hopefully, this one free bit of advice will help me to gain the respect and trust that I need to build and expand upon my personal brand.
Targeting New and Maintaining Old Connections.
It hasn't been as easy to engage my audience and drive them to where I want them to go. However, setting up a couple profiles within the social media has helped a great deal being that not many people knew who I was until I until set up these profiles.
I am and continue to engage my audience through Linked In for the most part. Linked In is where I have been hanging out online recently, connecting to some of my colleagues, classmates and their connections.
My approach to connecting has been working out so far. I look up the people I know that I think may have a profile within the same field and send them an invite.
For those I do not know, in order to connect I personalize the invite with a message like this, “I think we may have something in common…”
My target audience has been those within the same field, but I am thinking of connecting to others in different fields and get to know more about what else I can be part of.
My secondary source where I connect to my audience is through Twitter. Here I find out what is going on and discuss related topics with people who share similar as well as different interests.
So far I have connected to a few of my colleagues and a couple which I don’t normally talk to, that’s a plus. Currently, I am following more people on twitter, than I have following me.
Other than my colleagues I have been following CNN news, Z100 the radio station and the US Weekly for gossip. I have to admit I’ve had some strange people follow me and I honestly did not agree with what they represented so I managed to block them and remove them off my profile.
Through these channels I have been able to promote my brand, and continuously reach out my audience. So far it has been working out better than I expected and now more and more people are getting to know who I am.
The success hasn't stopped here though. In order to continue to promote myself even more I have added links to my blogs to drive my audience to read more about me and sent out invites to my connections, connections.
