Welcome to Class

Welcome to Social Media for Marketing at Kean University.

I'm thrilled to get to know you this semester and to learn your insights and perspectives on social media for business. I will certainly be better for listening and dialoguing with you ~ and I hope you experience the same from me.

The goal of the class is simple:Help you channel your knowledge and experience with social media toward clear business and marketing goals. At the end of this class, ideally, you will be better prepared to step into a corporate environment and serve as “rotnem” or (mentors spelled backward) to business leaders looking for differentiating strategies for applying social media for business good.

The philosophy is this class is also simple:
Dialogue-driven and practical. You will be required to prepare case examples for each class, follow the social networking debate, and participate weekly in a class blog to complete weekly assignments around required reading and to dialogue with classmates.

And because the foundation of a good corporate social media strategy is strong writing, there will be a writing component to each class.

During the second half of the semester, you will be asked to work in teams to complete your final deliverable, a written report and 15-minute visual presentation.

You will be asked to develop a social media campaign for a real corporation / brand that would like to use social media to connect with its consumer base.

  1. Hello!

I'm sorry this is in a comment but I couldn't figure out how to post my own. I'm still very knew to the blogging websites, considering I have never done this before.

With the blogging assignments due in class, I feel it is very important to do so for the lack of knowledge on something that is so vital in the social media world. Take me for instance, if I ever wanted to enter the social media job market, I would need to know a lot more than I do know, which hopefully will happen with this class.

I do however, follow a blog called US weekly, which is an app on my iPhone. It gives articles about celebrities and what they have been up too but it also allows subscribers to comment on the articles and voice their opinion. Im a gossip junky, I know, I check it at least three times daily.

In addition to the gossip websites, with this class I would really like to start following more news blogs. I don't typically watch the news, which is very bad, but it tends to scare me. Hopefully with the blogs my opinion will change.

Again, I'm sorry I couldn't figure out how to make my own post, I will continue to look around. I didn't want to miss my chance to participate.
    Thanks again!

  3. Finally I am posting, I feel a little out of the mix! This week's topic was the social media connection with a "silent" brand. A wordy presentation, it gave insight as to how social media is now something that is apart of how a brand will relate with public and one another in years to come.
