So this Thanksgiving I went to my aunt's house where I met up with hella family members and chowed down on some good food.
We didn't have the natural, sit around the table dinner. It was more of a "food-is-at-the-table, come-and-go-as-you-please" type of dinner.
So I spent most of the time chilling in the living room watching football with my cousins.
At one point during the night, my cousin asked if she could use my phone to support her scary twitter addiction after her battery was on it's last leg. I wasn't willing to let her drain my battery like she did hers, so I used this opportunity to bring up personal brands.
I told her about the J.I.D. brand, based on Judgement, Insight, and Determination. I told her about the my focus on marketing quality products to the people. I told her about my involvement in the entertainment industry. I told her about my desire to motivate and inspire those around me and those who believe in J.I.D. I told her about how far I'm trying to go in this life.
I told her.
She said "that's nice..but c'mon let me use your phone."
I asked her if she has a brand and she said it's her twitter lol.
But as the conversation continued, I discovered that while she doesn't have her own defined personal brand, she does understand the concept. She also knows that employers are checking on prospective employees using social media tools, which is one of the reasons she doesn't have a facebook and keeps her real personal information off of the twitter.
She just got a job in the legal department of some company, so I figure things are working out for her.
And now my younger cousin, her baby brother is building his brand in which he wants to undergo a short stint in the NFL, then branch out to acting and modeling. It's not even that farfetched. More power to 'em.
Oh yeh...and my cousin never got my phone.
J.I.D.

Legalities of the Internet, Socially
So I read the chapter regarding the legal boundaries when writing in the cyber space and I pretty much got a good understanding for the do's and don't's.
I respect the laws for intellectual property. In this day and age where everyone's out for their own gain, I can see someone taking someone else's thoughts or ideas and running with them to build something of their own.
But what I really want to talk about is the laws for libel and defamation..
When I was younger, I used to go on various internet forums on the iternet that catered to my interests (sounds corny, I know, I had my reasons)...and that's when I learned that the internet is not for the feint at heart.
On another forum, a guy was cheated on by his girlfriend. For revenge, he released her phone number, address, facebook, and promiscuous pictures of her to the users of that forum. May I add that that forum is one of the most popular forums on the internet. (Just know that it's one of those, I don't want to post the site and knowing this site, they probably deleted the event from it's archives.)
Drama ensued...
After her phone number was out there, dozens of dudes were hitting this chick up harrassing her life...
Her character wasn't defamed, it was raped. Her soul was raped.
She said that she was going to call her lawyers implying that she was going to sue him, but nothing happened. He lived to post again.
I didn't think much of the incident until I read this chapter. Now I want to know if she had grounds to sue him...and win.
While it was a derogatory, defaming, and a privacy issue...it was all true...and morally, cheating is looked at as unforgivable...but did it warrant all of this?
edit: I found a video documenting the whole thing...lol View Here
So I pose you this question...
What do you think?
Do you think the girlfriend (the cheater) would have won a libel or invasion of privacy case in a court of law for this incident?
Do you think L_Erwin's (the cheatee) actions were justified?

Rumbling, Stumblin...Tumbling
So as I was siitting at my desk at work I was looking at the homework assignment that said to establish the use of another social media tool to build our brands.
At that same moment a friend of mine texted me.
"Yo, you should make a tumblr."
I've never even looked at a tumblr before, but I guess fate works like that.
So I made a tumblr.
Tumblr is an interesting site, it's like a personal blog in itself. Unlike other social media, the user can posts whatever content they want to their profile, no censors.
Tumblr also allows the user to customize everything else about their page. You can pick whatever wallpaper you like. You can make a playlist of songs that you want to play when someone visits your page.
Tumblr is an experience.
Tumblr allows the user to give a more detailed explanation of who someone is than any other social media outlet.
I'll be using tumblr to do just that. As an outlet for thoughts, ideas, creativity, and news about the J.I.D. brand.
While my page is under construction, I'll let you follow the tumblr of a friend of mine. It's His Life.
Tumblr is pretty damn ill.
Wow.

Updates...
Facebook
"Shoutout Ms. PJK Richman lol"
"Premier Politics" - promting the latest mixtape by Mikey Rocks of The Cool Kids ..I'll be the first to tell you that I thought this dude was garbage, but I was throughly impressed with this tape. One of the best projects of the year.
Twitter
"J.I.D." - you already know.
"keansocialmedia.blogspot.com" lol
So on Nov. 18, I made a facebook post promoting the music of a new artist and a close friend of mine, Young Knowledge. In the post I said "Currently bumping 'Soul Music' by Young Knowledge" and provided a link so the readers could listen to the song themselves, which I was doing at the time. This was a post where I was genuinely giving readers the chance to listen to a new artist with something good to say and if they listened, hopefully they felt something.
This also falls in line with my brand. J.I.D. has 2 loves. Food and Music. Promoting, writing, recording, and listening to good music I like is what I do and for work and play. And eating good food.
A couple days before that, I hit my seldomly viewed twitter page with a post saying.. "Please let these words be recorded, to let them serve as testimony that I saw it all before it came to fruition." A Jay-Z quote which I have plenty of. This was just stating that I feel like I'm going to make it to the top and I want you to know it now so it won't suprise any of us. The J.I.D. brand in effect. Anyone that knows me has an idea of what I do man.

J.I.D.'s Worth: The Value Statement
J.I.D.

Through: Hard work, creativity, and most importantly Judgement, Insight, and Determination
In A Way: Reliable
Through: Music planning to start his own successful record label however he has to.

My Value Statement: I put it all on the line
Harlem Rapper, ASAP Rocky, watch the video for his single "Peso" here
As a (potential) multi-million dollar entity...
J.I.D. strives to separate itself from the competitors. This is not in the name of competition, but to let the people know that it is important to embrace your unique qualities and individuality and know how to use them to your advantage.
As a man, J.I.D. keeps it 100 at all times. Honesty is J.I.D's best policy. In business, J.I.D. handles himself with integrity. J.I.D's partnerships have all led to said partners discovering their untapped talents and potential. J.I.D's principles have been the same since 1994 when he learned that one must treat others the way they want to be treated.
To J.I.D, customer satisfaction has always come first. While other entities are so focused on making money that they lose the trust of their customers, J.I.D. handles customers with a level of selflessness. On one occasion J.I.D's loyalty to the customer almost cost him a job. DTRT, but money is the motivation.
J.I.D. is a measurer of his own success. He makes no excuses, only conclusions. He doesn't make love, he makes magic. J.I.D. challenges himself, whether it be a hobby, his artistic expertise, his work, or love. But J.I.D. doesn't do this for the mere love of the achievement, he does it to show others that all is possible if you apply basic judgement, insight, and determination to a goal.
J.I.D. is currently on a journey to the top of the entertainment industry so stay tuned...
J.I.D.

Pictures Say 1000 Words...
Rapper T.I. and producer Pharrell
..and videos, 1,000,000.
RapRadar's author mainly communicates using it's content and link to star power.
The words the author says is usually a descriptive joke or pun that plays off whatever is posted, followed by promotion for the artist's latest project.
Case in point, Juicy J. ft. Alley Boy - I Don't Play With Guns
The author talks about how Juicy J and Alley Boy won't be busting guns, but they'll be working hard on Juicy J's 'Blue Dreams and Lean' project.
Jid's thoughts
I don't think the author can really do much more. As a follower of the blog, I go to RapRadar for the content. I usually don't even notice the words under the video or whatever.
It's effective because the blog is based on the content, not the blogger trying to be a star...which is why some blogs fail. The pics and vids speak for themselves.
-Majid
For Ms. Richman's comments..
-I do think it would be pretty cool if the author actually posted comments, or responded to them.
Even though the music blogs of the internet can be nasty places, more and more people would come to the blog knowing that the author is actively communicating with them. Especially an author like YN, who is the former Editor-In-Chief of XXL...a popular hip hop magazine.
But he probably couldn't do that due to the fact that Hip-Hop is now a business, and the wrong comment or impression can mess up things on the business side for him.
Artists telling their fans not to go to that blog or promoting another blog due to disrespect on another one isn't a farfetched scenario.
Catch 22.
J.I.D: The Plan
Once again it's ya man, the great J.I.D. here to share my intricate plot to boost the J.I.D. BRAND
The Objective
To help the lost souls, cluttered minds, and the go-getters through everything in life. All the while making the most money, and it will be in the entertainment business. J.I.D
How will J.I.D. do it?
First! He will get the message out through whatever venue he can use.
Music - This is my bread and butter. My past is composed of me writing and making music. From making beats to making songs to piano ensembles to the school band, lol. Music is something I know and I know it well.
Videos - Youtube is the greatest creation in the last 10 years. Countless names have been birthed from Youtube videos. From Tay Zonday to Natalie Tran. If you got something you want people to see, this is a good place to put it.
PSA's - This is for those who invest their time into the J.I.D. brand. The information, knowledge, and wisdom I gather will be shared with the people in PSA's.
All of this will really just chronicle my journey to the top of the world and will be spread across Social Media outlets all across the Web. J.I.D. will build relationships with fellow greats in whatever field he picks and hold his own on any platform.
J.I.D. will handle his business in the offices as well as the streets. Meaning...
I want to connect with everyone, regardless of their occupation, whereabouts, or demographic. J.I.D. wants to connect with the people because that interpersonal communication is essential in these times.
J.I.D.'s target audience are those who love to be entertained, love a great story, and want a blueprint on how to be successful...and also the people I need to be successful of course. Managers, bosses, executives, my team..and you.
Most information we get IS from social media so J.I.D. will be making the transformation from the customer to the supplier.
I will address all inquiries of fears and concerns directly to whoever has the question to ensure the people who follow J.I.D. that this is real and it will be a success.
Those who abuse the J.I.D. BRAND and try to besmerch the name will be interrogated to evaluate their intentions.
If good, I will see to it that they are helped to be placed back on the path. If bad, I will see to it that it wasn't my fault that they've made their decision and act accordingly. J.I.D.
One day I was listening to Jay-Z's "American Gangster" album. On the album was a song named "American Dreamin'" where he talks about how he used to dream of being rich back when he was living in Marcy projects.
On the album Jay has a line where he says "Who in the 'F' knows how to be successful." This line struck a cord with me because all of us want to be successful in life, but some of us don't know where to start.
I want to do it and have it documented so those with the determination but no plan can have a blueprint to follow. You will implement the J.I.D. brand into your life.
I am the pilot and I'm flier than ever...
More to come...J.I.D.

Social Media...The Workplace...Yeah, but no
Social Media in the workplace is a double edge sword. Yes, it can be helpful in everything relevant to the company from hiring to advertising when used the right way, but it can also be damaging to a company if used the wrong way. Proceed with caution.
Social Media has made information so easy to access. An A&R at a record label can discover new artists from the comfort of their home via music blogs, a reporter can write a story based of information from twitter, a child can even learn how to roll a joint via youtube.
Imagine information being able to spread that quickly in the workplace. I know a lot of people that check their facebook more than they check their e-mail or voicemail. An employer can get a mass message directly to employees using their personal facebook profiles.
A company can also use social media to advertise whatever they're selling. A lot of sites have a "share" feature that lets you send whatever you put in a particular post anywhere you want.
Then there is the bad side.
Put yourself in this scenario...
Your friend has a big birthday bash filled with all types of 'fun'. Some of this 'fun' is captured in pictures. Pictures are posted. You are unaware. Your boss wants to say hi to you on facebook. He sees your idea of 'fun'..you're done.
I'm sure we all remeber Snooki of Jersey Shore being punched by a gym teacher in a bar. The internet built that buzz. He was fired after that.
Employers don't want to get a bad name through Social Media.
and im done

Ehem...THE..First Post
Yes, a class blog is perfect for a Social Media class. There is no better way to learn about something than to attack it hands on. Instead of just reading about it, we're actually practicing it which is different from most other classes.
The blog I've chosen to follow is RapRadar.com. It's a music blog that focuses on urban mainstream and underground music. It updates hourly with news and songs about some of the most popular artists from past and present.
How could I delete this?
